Bringing our members together:
Division and disconnect amongst our members has been an unfortunate issue in recent years. Resolving divisions between members can be a challenging task, but there are several strategies that I strongly believe in that can promote understanding, cooperation and unity within our Union. Here are the 8 strategies that I believe we can incorporate as solutions:

1. Foster open communications: Encouraging open and respectful communication among all our members. We need to provide platforms and opportunities for members to express their concerns, ideas and perspectives. This can include regular meetings, Townhalls, open forums, or even anonymous suggestion boxes. We have to ensure that all members feel heard, valued and respected.
2. Mediation and conflict resolution: Whenever specific conflicts or divisions become identified within our Union, we need to consider engaging a neutral third party (such as a professional mediator) to help find common ground and to facilitate resolutions. Trained mediators can help all parties understand each other's perspectives and work towards mutually acceptable realistic solutions.
3. Education and training: Conducting workshops or other sessions to enhance our members' understanding of Labour rights, negotiation skills and conflict resolution techniques. Building our members' knowledge and skills will empower them to engage in constructive dialogue and resolve their concerns.
4. Focus on common goals: Reminding our union members of our common interests and shared objectives. Emphasizing the importance of Solidarity and working together to achieve common goals, such as improving nurses' working conditions, negotiating fair contracts, and by advocating for all of our rights. Unfortunately, division and disconnect weakens our Union's unity and collective power.
5. Establish committees or task forces: Forming effective committees or task forces that bring together members with diverse viewpoints and backgrounds. Assign them specific projects or tasks that enhance collaboration and cooperation. Working towards a common goal can help bridge differences and build strong relationships.
6. Leadership involvement: Encouraging BCNU leaders to actively engage with members to address their voiced concerns. Our leaders need to be accessible, approachable, and responsive to members' needs. When our leaders show genuine interest in resolving divisions and promoting unity, it will inspire confidence and motivate members to work together.
7. Transparency and accountability: Fostering and increasing transparency within our Union by providing clear and timely information about Union activities, decisions, and finances. Members must feel confident that their concerns and input are taken seriously and that decisions are made in a fair and democratic manner. Holding our elected leaders and representatives accountable will build trust among our membership.

8. Social activities and community building: Organizing social events, team-building activities, or volunteer initiatives to allow our members to interact in more relaxed settings. Creating opportunities for members to get to know each other on a personal level will help decrease barriers and foster a sense of camaraderie.
Remember that resolving our issues will take effort, time and patience. It's essential that we create an inclusive and supportive environment where all of our members feel valued and respected. By implementing these 8 strategies, we can increase unity and strengthen our Union.
